Oyster Card is the famous transport card of London. It gives you the option to pay for the trips at a minor price. Oyster Card can be recharged in order to add trips. It is cheaper than buying a single ticket at the machine and it is unipersonal. 

Oyster Card can be used at the following public transport options in London:

- Bus
- Docklands Light Railway

Oyster Card has different payment methods to suit all passengers. 

There is the Pay as you go option and the Travelcard option. 

Pay as you go is a rechargable option when you add money to the Oyster Card. 

Travelcard works as a transport bonus. It is advised to use that option if you have to stay more than just several days.

Oyster Card can be bought in any automatic machine on the metro. Also in the Airport. In order to get Oyster Card you will need to pay 5 pounds as deposit. This deposit will be refunded once you return Oyster Card. 

Recharge Oyster Card

Oyster Card can be recharged at any automatic machines. Payment can be made by cash or credit card. Look for the yellow sign at the machine. 

Return Oyster Card

Oyster Card never expires, so you can keep it for the next visit to London. However, it can be returned. Returns are done at the same machines when you purchase the card and recharge it. 

In order to receive your money back, the Oyster Card must be purchased more than 48hours before, have more than 10 pounds, among others. If you do not meet these standards, you should address to the information desks of London Underground or any train. 


In Heathrow passengers can use Oyster Card in practically every single transport option. The only options where Oyster Card cannot be used is Taxi and Heathrow Express.
